Childrens Book

 Hi Bloggers,

For the past few weeks in Literacy, we had a student-teacher and we were learning about children books. We learnt about children books authors like Margaret Mahy, Dr Suess, and Lynley Dodd. We read a book from each of the authors and broke it down, talking about the themes and language features. Some of the most common language features were rhyming and repetition. After we learnt about these books and authors, we were challenged to write and illustrate a children's book of our own. I wrote mine about Celery, and I tried to incorporate repetition as much as possible. Here it is:

Wondrous Week 8

Kiaora Bloggers,
This week we started a new subject for technology. My group has moved into cooking/food. We will be making bread and pasta throughout the term. For the first class, we made a simple loaf of bread to get to know the techniques of making and kneading the dough. It was delicious.

For Numeracy this week, we have been focussing on finding a way to always win a game. the game we had to win was called take 3.
How to play: There are 21 counters and 2 players. each player has a go and can choose to take either 1, 2, or 3 counters. Whoever takes the last counter wins.
I figured out that the way to win every time is to go first and to make the remaining amount of counters a multiple of 4. That way you can always win because no matter how many the other player takes, you can always make it a multiple of 4 again. And when you get to 4, the other player can take away 1, 2, or 3 but cannot get the last counter, so you win.

In Literacy, we have been continuing on with our websites. I finished the layout for my website so now all I have to do is the writing. I have written 2/9 of the texases. We are not allowed to do it in school time anymore because we will be moving onto our next study. Here is a picture of what my Themes page looks like.

See you next time:)

Wonderful Week 7

Kia Ora Bloggers,
This week, we have had a normal week except we had a mufti day on Friday. We usually bring a gold coin donation but this time, we brought a non-perishable item to donate to the Salvation Army. I got to help take all of the items to the Salvation Army truck and there was a lot of items. Some of the boxes were too heavy for me so I ended up just carrying the bags(which were still pretty heavy).

In literacy, we have been continuing on our websites. I finished my website so I need to start writing my essays now. I have to write an essay on 3 symbols, 3 characters, and 3 themes in The Wizard of Oz. I have started writing mine for the 3 themes. I included a photo of a page on my website. I put some pictures on it but for some reason, they wouldn't load.

In numeracy, we have been learning some simple algebra. We have had to do a problem every day for this whole week. This is the problem that we had to do on Thursday.
I used a table to work out the question.

Thanks for reading my blog post, see you next time!

My Superb Sestina/NZ Writing

Kia Ora Bloggers,
Today for writing, we have been working on a sestina poem. A sestina is a poem that has 6 lines, each with 6 words. We had to write about a journey. This is what our sentences had to be about:

Line 1 - Something you saw
Line 2 - Something you remember
Line 3 - A person who was with you
Line 4 - A wonderful imagined thing that didn’t actually happen
Line 5 - A reason for your journey

Line 6 - Random 6 word sentence

Here is my Sestina Poem:

6 line,6 word story
A climbing wall, outside a mall
A tower of crispy chicken rice
My mum and my annoying brother
I ate a donut every day
There were some wonderfully cheap flights
I really want some cheese rolls

We will be sending these to a school in Hamilton. We are looking forward to reading.
Mine doesn’t make much sense but our teacher said that that is ok.
Have you ever written a sestina poem before?

Hair - Information Report

Hair - Makawe
Introduction
Hair grows on most parts of your body, even your cheeks!
Places that your hair doesn’t grow include your lips, the
palms of your hands and the bottom of your feet.

How does hair grow?
Hair starts growing at the root which is a place
where cells stick together. When cells stick
together, they form keratin which is the protein hair
is made of. The root is inside a follicle which is like
a small pipe in your skin. When hair starts to grow,
it pushes up from the root and out of the follicle.
Miniature blood vessels at the base of a follicle feed
the hair root so it keeps growing. When your hair
reaches your skin's surface, the cells in the strand
of hair die which is why it doesn’t hurt when you
get your hair cut.

Oil glands
Nearly every hair follicle is connected to a sebaceous
gland, more commonly known as a oil gland. Oil
glands produce oil, which makes hair shiny and a tiny bit waterproof.

Falling Off
There are more than 100,000 hairs on your head and you
lose from 50-100 every day. Each hair on your head grows for about 2-6 years
then it rests for a few months then falls off.

Colours
There are lots of different hair colours. Hair comes
from melanin, which is the substance that gives hair
its colour. People with lighter hair have less melanin
and people with darker hair has more melanin. When
you get older you start to lose melanin which is why
older people have grey or white hair. Usually your
hair colour matches your skin colour. For example,
people with darker skin usually have darker hair and
people with lighter skin have less melanin.

Conclusion

Here’s a way to have great hair: eat a healthy diet!
A nutritious diet helps your body inside and out!
